New Zealand Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency
Management / Health Board
The NZ Ministry of Civil
Defence & Emergency Management maintains a national HF radio
communications network to be used in the event of a failure of the
public communications network following a major natural disaster or
terrorist incident. The scope of the emergency network means that most
district councils are also equipped with access to the network to
facilitate emergency management during a major incident.
The network is also used by reserve military units in times of national
emergency.
Various hospitals also maintain an emergency HF
network, which is linked into the Civil Defence & Emergency Management
network via several frequencies.
Keep an ear out on primary and call channels Wednesdays 2100, 2115, 2125-2135 UTC for tests/check ins, and Thursday 2230 UTC.
